Johanna made the move to London at 20 after receiving a place on the undergrad jazz course on violin at the Guildhall School of Music and Drama. She was fortunate enough to to learn from renowned UK jazz musicians during this time such as Stuart Hall, Chris Garrick, Martin Speake, Barak Schmool, Martin Hathaway and Malcolm Edmonstone among others. In her third and fourth year of the course she also enjoyed second study jazz voice lessons with Brigitte Beraha.
Both Berlin and London are the biggest influences on her playing and compositions. The current newly intensified London jazz scene mixed with the never wavering Berlin techno scene are what makes out Johanna’s unique approach to improvisation and composing. Since diverting her focus to jazz, she has been privileged enough to collaborate with and contribute to a diverse range of projects, bands and recordings.
